Can he appoint himself?
My money is on Tate Reeves, though Ron Burris is looking pretty good right now.
Don't know who but he'll surely have the timing requirements for the special election down cold this time.
I wouldn't be surprised if the replacement was a dark horse.
Tate Reeves? I hope not. He's a lightweight.
Gov. Barbour could resign and then Lt. Gov. Phil Bryant could appoint Barbour to the seat. It would be a good deal for Bryant, who is currently facing more GOP competition than expected in the 2011 primary.
Such a move would probably stop the "Barbour for President" boomlet, though.
I don't think Haley would appoint himself. I tend to think that Haley would want to appoint someone young and in-step with Haley politically. To me, that gives Tate Reeves a leg up. Reeves is close with Henry and Austin Barbour, and doesn't ever stray from the party line. On top of that, he's in his mid-30's, meaning he could possibly be senator for a long, long time.
