Mark My Words . . .

The Christian Right will be up in arms over President Obama's choice of a Jewish Supreme Court nominee. We will hear about how there are now no Protestants on the Court. It will be conveniently forgotten that President George W Bush replaced two Protestants (Rhenquist and O'Connor) with Catholics (Roberts and Alito)

Right, Jim. All those Christians should be shot. They're all despicable. Like rats.

Of course not, Saint. I've been a member of the Presbyterian Church since 1976, and Fondren in particular since 1990. My point was, that the anti-Obama spin has been so vicious, we can predict that this one nomination will be cast as the end of civilization as we know it (like health care, or the stimulus, or cap-and-trade, etc), without any acknowledgment that the reduction of Justices who belong to Protestant churches has happened during Republican Administrations.

Jim, I don't think the Christian Right (whomever that term includes) cares one bit that Ms. Kagan is Jewish. The post implied some widespread racial animus among modern Christians against Jews. (Read the post again and tell me I misinterpreted the implication.) I simply do not see it, except among a few crazies that do not represent any large population of modern Christians. In fact, the farthest right of the Christian Right believe that Jews occupy a special place in God's plan. If Ms. Kagan turns out to be a closet conservative, the Christian Right will adore her. If she reveals herself as a far left liberal, the Christian Right will not adore her. The fact that she is or is not a Jew will not matter to most mainstream Christians. I grow weary of commentators implying things about what most Christians do or do not believe that simply are not true.
