Found an excellent Jackson-area food blog

Carpe Jackson, birthed 6 months ago, is a Jackson-area food blog. Its author, unknown to me, apparently moved to Jackson from Durham, NC, where said author wrote for a similar blog, CarpeDurham.com. In just 6 months, the author has covered some pretty substantial gastronomic territory, and has uncovered some restaurants that I haven't even heard of. In addition to the frequent food reviews, Carpe Jackson also thankfully posts restaurant openings.

Carpe Jackson is some excellent work, folks. I'm bookmarking this one and checking it daily. Oh, and you can now find it in our links to the right.

Dear Hardy Collaboration Architecture

It is my understanding that you are responsible for the design of the new Federal Courthouse in Jackson.  That being said...

Am I missing something?  Is there some symbolic meaning in this asymmetric, God-awful, eye-stinging building you have created in the heart of our city?

I honestly hope so.

Jackson Chamber of Commerce endorses examination of the Two Lakes plan UPDATED

Yesterday, the Jackson Chamber of Commerce passed a resolution in support of a study of the Two Lakes plan. I'm trying to get a copy of the resolution uploaded now.

Just back from a weekend in Berkeley, and the Bold New City aka City of Hospitality is abuzz with the news that Mayor Frank Melt-down does NOT live here! Wow. Maybe I dreamed the last four years??

My two cents on the Case of the Non-Resident Mayor: If we don't watch out, there's going to be a backlash against the actions of the Feckless Federales and the "See No Melton, Hear No Melton, Speak No Melton" Democratic Committee. The crime-beleaguered citizens of West Jackson may decide that His Frankness is trying his best, and that they won't let The Man take their choices away from them.

Why not just let the Mayor run for re-election, make every effort to defeat him, and take care of business that way? The Federal trial can always be scheduled for after the election.

A Fine Man Steps Down From City Council

The Jackson Free Press is reporting that Leslie McLemore will not seek a third term on the City Council. Dr. McLemore has held the Ward Two seat since April 1999.

I have known Dr. McLemore since I moved to Jackson in 1982. He has a commanding intellect, a kind heart, a deep commitment to the City of Jackson, and the highest possible integrity. We don't often have persons of this caliber in municipal governments anywhere in the United States.

Congratulations to Dr. McLemore for a job well done!
