2011 Rumor Mill

Here's what I'm hearing is happening out there:

  • Sen. Billy Hewes has ordered signs that read "Lt. Gov. Hewes."  Folks think that's a bit presumptuous.
  • Stacy Pickering and Tate Reeves will round out the Lt. Gov. field on the GOP side
  • Most elected Democrats are staying put and running for reelection, in contrast to the fratricide about to occur on the GOP side
  • Tate Reeves should raise a ton of money at an upcoming Jackson fundraiser, to be held at Bravo! tomorrow night
  • The turnout at Phil Bryant's Thursday night fundraiser at the Jackson Country Club was sparse, and there could be a surprising reason for that...
  • That surprising reason is Delbert Hosemann's announcing he'll run for Governor this coming Thursday.

I hear there were a lot of people at the Phil Bryant fundraiser called in to fill up the room so it didn't look empty and so a lot of younger people there just came for the Molly Ringwalds and didn't pay. Sure, I expect a lot of people who did pay did not show up, but just another piece to that.

Matt, I enjoy reading Ipse. I was involved in raising the money for the Bryant event at the country club. We raised approx. $200,000 and we invited young people to come as the event comm. guests. This was done to get the young people involved in Conservative politics and the upcoming campaign for Governor. The The Country Club was packed and we had alot of fun. Thanks,Tony Geiger

Phil Bryant's problem is that even many of his fellow Republicans think he's dumb as a post and a terrible candidate. Remember the Mike Parker fiasco? Perhaps the Miss. GOP does as well.

I would think Hosemann has a decent shot at the GOP nomination, even if the Hoggfather -- er, Gov. Barbour -- gives Bryant his blessing.

I know they were desperate for attendees for this thing because even I got an email asking me to attend and I have never participated in any Republican event or supported publicly or privately a Republican since I became of voting age.

I likewise hear that most Jackson Republicans think he's as dumb as a doornail, and that Barbour will only support him if he has to.
